Paper Dolls

Project Artwork
01 / 12

This work is inspired by vintage paper dolls. My goal is to celebrate real women, culture, and fashion. Traditionally paper dolls were used as playthings for little girls and illustrated the characteristic mannerisms of the era. I wish to fuse traditional style and sentiment with modern diversity and culture. This mixed media project combines photography and illustration. Currently, the dolls poses are inspired by 1950's era dolls. Each model was paired with a doll of the time and given a look. All work is done by hand, including the outfit design and cutting. The additional materials used include sewing pins and earring backings, which illustrates traditional female items and skills. This project invites women of all types, backgrounds, and ages to participate.
